Isaiah D. Thomas, a celebrated figure in the gospel music world, passed away on January 27, 2025, marked a tremendous loss for the gospel community.
Thomas made a significant impact on the genre with his exceptional talents as a musician, songwriter, and producer. His breakout moment came in 2007 when his song “I Will Bless the Lord,” recorded by Byron Cage, earned him a Stellar Award for Song of the Year. The following year, his group, Isaiah D. Thomas & Elements of Praise (EOP), clinched another Stellar Award for Contemporary Choir of the Year. The group became renowned for their stirring performances and intricate vocal arrangements, embodying the distinct DC gospel sound.
Surprisingly, Thomas didn’t initially consider himself a singer. His unexpected debut as a vocalist at age 20, during a recording session where the lead singer was absent, launched a celebrated career. Over the years, he created beloved albums like “Pray Everything,” “Will Be Alright,” “I Dare You,” and “The Greatest.” Fans adored songs like “High In All The Earth“, “Been So Good To Me”, “Run Tell That“, “Still Here” and “Said He Would Be With Me,” which became a staples in churches worldwide.
Beyond his recorded works, Thomas grew up in Bible Way Churches Worldwide. But, became a fixture at New Samaritan Baptist Church and an alumnus of the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts. His music, ministry, and warm personality left an indelible mark on friends, colleagues, and fans. Tributes from across the gospel world reflect the widespread admiration for Thomas’s artistry, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to sharing the gospel through music. His legacy lives on in the hearts he touched and the communities he uplifted.
