Holiday Construction On These Metro Lines May Impact Travel Into DC

It’s Holiday season and along with many people being off of work and snuggled up at home, many others will still be out and about needing transportation. Metro has announced that there several of the downtown stations will be closed for scheduled track work from Dec. 20-30. These closers will impact the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines.

From December 20th to the 30th, the following stations will be closed; Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level of Metro Center but free shuttles will run between Foggy Bottom and Federal Triangle. From December 27th to the 30th, the following stations will be closed; Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, and the lower level of L’Enfant Plaza but Shuttles will connect Foggy Bottom and Federal Center SW.

By New Year’s Eve (December 31st) all of these stations will reopen. The construction updates will increase Metro’s service on the Green and Yellow Lines and add bus routes in part of its upcoming “Better Bus Network” in 2025. Regional bus routes in Maryland and Virginia will also adjust for long-term projects.
